The Internet of Things (IoT) is set to revolutionize weather monitoring and the global market for it is projected to grow at an impressive compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 9.8% by 2031. The surge is basically driven by the increasing demand from various industries as well as widespread adoption of IoT solutions.
A prime example of it is SparkFun’s weather station kit. It was unveiled in September 2023 and seamlessly integrates with the Arduino IoT Cloud platform. It is based on the MicroMod ESP32 processor board and connected to a dedicated MicroMod weather carrier board. It comes equipped with sensors for temperature, pressure, humidity and lightning detection. Moreover, the kit also allows for solder-free connectivity to external sensors including soil moisture, wind speed and a rain gauge. It is an user-friendly system and makes accessible to all an advanced weather monitoring tool. It simultaneously encourages the integration of more comprehensive environmental data.
Abreast to it, Vodafone Idea’s Vi Foundation established an IoT Centre of Excellence at Indira Gandhi Delhi Technical University for Women (IGDTUW) partnered with the Telecom Sector Skill Council (TSSC) in September 2023. Its main focus is to equip students with skills in IoT applications and includes smart environmental monitoring. The educational push ensures a steady stream of skilled professionals in the segment.
Helium Foundation announced collaborations with several organizations in January 2023 to leverage its decentralized wireless technology. WeatherXM, a community-driven decentralized weather network, qnectd, an IoT solutions provider for smart cities, and KitchenOS, a provider of food safety solutions, collaborated. The decentralized approach definitely broadens scope of weather monitoring and even ensures more reliable as well as widespread data collection.
