OpenAI CEO Sam Altman has come up with an AI agent named Operator that is capable of autonomous online actions. His another bold step that has hit the headlines is in the AI world and named World. His so-called World aims to create tools that connect AI agents with digital identities of real people. It is basically to ensure that the agents can act on behalf of verified humans.<\/p>\n
World was earlier known as Worldcoin and operates under the belief that distinguishing between humans and AI on the internet will soon become a major challenge. World proposes a unique solution to use biometric verification such as scanning eye of an individual with a metal orb to generate a blockchain-based ID to prove that someone is human. The concept is called \u201cproof of human\u201d and is designed to verify online personas as well as potentially license AI agents to act under human authorization.<\/p>\n
The project was originally a crypto initiative and has faced regulatory pushback including temporary bans in some countries. The regulatory also required to allow Europeans to delete their biometric data. It shifted focus from cryptocurrency to human verification last October and dropped \u201ccoin\u201d from its name.<\/p>\n
Linking AI agents to human identities is being positioned as a logical evolution of World\u2019s mission. Tiago Sada, the project\u2019s chief product officer, highlighted the importance of delegating digital identity to AI agents. The system could also confirm that an AI agent is genuinely representing a real person instead of simply verifying that users on a platform are human.<\/p>\n
World envisions its ID technology would be used to control networks of AI agents and also ensures that their actions align with the identity of their human counterpart. The tools could redefine digital interactions and verifying legitimacy of online activities performed by AI easier. Sada noted that it won\u2019t matter if an action is performed by a person or their agent in some scenarios as long as it is linked to a verified human endorsement.<\/p>\n
Websites are currently using tools like Cloudflare to block AI bots from accessing their platforms. OpenAI\u2019s Operator has already encountered resistance from certain sites.
