Bengaluru is facing serious water crisis lately and the city\u2019s water management body is adopting innovative technologies to tackle the situation. The Bengaluru Water Supply and Sewerage Board (BWSSB) is now taking the help of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Internet of Things (IoT) systems to monitor borewells.<\/p>\n
A demonstration of these two technologies took place at a borewell in Benson Town in the city. The IoT sensors installed will analyze water flow patterns and simultaneously send crucial data to the cloud for assessment. This data will thereafter be used to regulate the operation of motors to ensure optimal water usage. Apart from this, the automatic signals will prompt shutdowns when water levels decrease. This will minimize the need for manual intervention.<\/p>\n
BWSSB chairman V Ram Prasath Manohar said the measures are crucial to prevent unscientific exploitation of borewells and simultaneously ensure long-term sustainability. Setting up fixed pumping levels and implementing central monitoring means a focus to prevent overuse of water and even streamline of operations. Additionally, the technology reduces the risk of drawing soil into borewells. This will keep the borewells free of blockages.<\/p>\n
The BWSSB has already implemented the technology in five borewells and it has plans to expand the implementation across the city. Besides these measures, the civic agency has also taken various other measures to regulate water usage such as mandating the use of tap aerators in various establishments and placing restrictions on water usage for certain activities like pool dances during festivals and non-essential purposes like washing cars and gardening.<\/p>\n
The water scarcity issue in Bengaluru is severe. Thousands of borewells are drying up across the city. With these technological interventions and regulatory measures, the Bengaluru Water Board aims to address the crisis effectively and ensure a sustainable water supply for the city\u2019s residents.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
